Lincomycin-medicated feed for the control of porcine proliferative enteropathy (ileitis) in swine

چکیده
Methods: A total of 312 commercial crossbred pigs at two sites were randomly assigned to receive lincomycin in feed at either 44 or 110 ppm, or no treatment. On 2 consecutive days, each pig was inoculated orally with Lawsonia intracellularis in the form of porcine intestinal mucosal homogenate. Animals were observed until clinical signs of disease were seen, then pigs assigned to treatment groups received lincomycin in the feed daily for 21 days. Control animals received no treatment. Clinical observations and performance were assessed throughout the study. Necropsies were conducted at the end of the study or at death.

Evaluation of tylosin tartrate in drinking water for treatment of porcine proliferative enteropathy (ileitis)
Materials and methods: The study consisted of three treatments (Nonchallenged– unmedicated, Challenged–unmedicated, and Challenged–medicated), with six pens of six pigs per treatment (N = 108 pigs). Pigs 28 days old were challenged orally on Days 0 and 1 with L intracellularis. Drinking water medicated with tylosin tartrate (Tylan Soluble Powder; Elanco Animal Health, Indianapolis, Indiana) was...
متن کاملUpdate on epidemiology and diagnosis of porcine proliferative enteropathy
Proliferative enteropathy (PE) is an enteric disease that occurs in pigs1 and a number of other species.2 The etiologic agent of PE in swine is the obligatory intracellular bacterium Lawsonia intracellularis.3–6 The disease in pigs, commonly referred to as ileitis, occurs in two major clinical forms. Acute hemorrhagic diarrhea and sudden death of replacement animals and finishing pigs close to ...

Methods: Thirty-two pigs were allocated to two replications of four treatments, each replication with four pigs per treatment; 1) noninfected and nonmedicated (CONTROL); 2) infected and nonmedicated(I-NM); 3) infected and medicated with feed containing tiamulin hydrogen fumarate (thf ) at 35 g per ton (I-35); and 4) infected and medicated with feed containing thf at 50 g per ton (I-50). These d...
متن کاملPrevention and Control of Porcine Proliferative Enteropathy (“Ileitis”)
Porcine proliferative enteropathy is an enteric disease, primarily affecting young growing pigs and associated with the end of the small intestine i.e. the ileum, hence, it is more commonly called ‘ileitis’. The proliferative lesions can also extend down into the caecum and proximal colon. The disease is caused by the obligate, intracellular-living bacterium, Lawsonia intracellularis, named aft...
متن کاملEvaluating a natural outbreak of porcine proliferative enteropathy and treatment with tylosin in the grow-finish phase
Objective: To determine approximate time and severity of a porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE) outbreak in a herd with a history of PPE; to compare average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), feed efficiency (F:G), and clinical impression of disease in clinically affected nonmedicated controls versus pigs medicated with 110 ppm (100 g per ton) of tylosin for 21 days followed...
